After landing at Normandy on June 7, 1944, the Western Allies fought their way across France and liberated Brussels on September 4th. She didn’t know it at the time but this was possibly the happiest day in the life of our survivor Jeannine Burk. She was a two weeks away from being five years old and had been a “hidden child” for a little over two years.
